You know that saying, "Its such a small world"? Baby August' session was all of that and then some. (Kansas City Newborn Photographer)
One evening I received an email from August' dad, expressing to me that he was interested in more information regarding a newborn session for his 8 week old. His wife was very sad that they neglected to do maternity portraits, as well newborn portraits. Now that August was a bit older, he was a bit worried that it was too late. My first thought was OMG, how sweet is this! Most dads are the last to want to do portraits period, so he for sure gets brownie points on the husband scale for reaching out to surprise his wife. The second thing that went through my head was, "gosh his last name sounds familiar." Then.... it clicked! His wife and I go way back to early early childhood days starting at Childrens church in our home town of Wichita, KS.
I assumed that he probably knew this and was reaching out since we had some kind of connection. Immediately I responded and let him know that "Hey! I'd love to have your little one in my studio! And by the way, I know your wife!"
Then, came his reply....."Wow! So I had no idea about any of the connections :)". Then he expressed that he just saw some of my work on social media and thought it was some of the best newborn portraits he's seen in Kansas City (Blushing over here over this one still). What happened next? I recognized that the dad was also a pastor and realized, the world just got smaller..... he was the Pastor of the church that my 4 year old goes to! I mean c'mon! How wild is this! It was fate of course!
What happened next?
YUP, you guessed it, I got them booked on my schedule right away! Since their little guy was already well out of the newborn portraits phase, I still could never turn away a baby. NOPE! You never know the circumstances and in my opinion should never deny a mom and dad portraits of their little ones.
Was I nervous? Oh yes, but I was also SUPER excited. I love a good challenge and was up for it!
The day of their session came and oh. my. gosh! The first thing mom and dad said as they entered my studio was " We have absolutely NO expectations at all for this." My reply...." Well I do!" haha ) Liberty Missouri Newborn Photographer
We had such a blast chatting and gushing over the cuteness of their little man and something kind of cool was, l think that he had his first smile in my studio :-) !
Sweet August was that and then some. He was pure cuddles and squish. The first thing I thought about was " We HAVE to capture his cheeks!" As shown clearly above (one of my newest favorite images I've taken), we captured it just perfectly. Was August into all of the things I had planned? Not at all, but we managed to get some priceless portraits of him and his parents as well as him alone (including his dad getting a little pee'd on but it was SO worth it hehe).
I'll wrap up this long blog in saying that, just because a baby is older doesn't mean you cant capture sweet moments for their family. Thats my job. Age is just a number and I'll never think the same about the rule of "newborns can only be done within the first month after birth."
